Why I’m in counseling

I’m off to my first counseling session today, not quite sure what to expect, but I think it will be ok, I’m used to talk about anything these days. Thought I’d share a few of the reasons why I am:

  • People I respect like Rob Bell and Jon from Stuff Christians Like do it for completely normal reasons, just to keep their head on straight.
  • I’ve realised there are a few issues that, while they don’t completely mess up my life, I don’t seem to be able to move past them by myself.
  • I believe everyone would benefit from (good) counseling, and if you’re Christian, (good) Christian counseling.
  • I think there definitely shouldn’t be any stigma associated with it, yet even as I write and as I’ve shared with people who I know accept me, I feel that pull of the world to worry what people might think. But, and this is something I’ve said to people I care about that have thought about getting counseling; I believe that it actually makes you a stronger and more noble person to want to be the best and the most whole person you can be.
