For years I’ve been trying to get round to building an electric upright bass. I got quite far but stuck when I needed to mill the neck. Hopefully with a bit more time I’ll get round to it. But this is the product so far:
I’m going for a scale length similar to a standard electric bass guitar, but with flatwound strings, fretless neck, and piezo pickup to make it sound more like an upright. The neck was bought cheap on ebay, the body is hardwood from Moss & Co. Kingstreet, Hammersmith, London, UK. The pickups are homemade, and there is an onboard FET preamp.
